Looking for a beautiful, ocean front camping site in Southern California? Might we suggest El Capitan State Beach Campground, located approximately 17 miles West of Santa Barbara, off the 101 freeway.
They have 123 campsites that span this portion of the property, each offering their own unique charm, surrounding you with lush landscape as well as easy access to the Pacific coastline. Their sites accommodate tents, motor homes, sprinters…well, practically any way you wish to enjoy the great outdoors. They do have some limitations, so we suggest visiting their website to ensure your specific needs can be accommodated.
Light walking trails are scattered throughout, or venture out and explore the railroad tracks. Oh, did we mention there’s a train that passes through sounding its glorious horn periodically? We’ll, there’s that…but we didn’t find it to be that disturbing. In fact, we feel it has a distinctive charm that makes El Capitan unique.
They also have a small convenience store, packed with your basic essentials, snacks, fire wood, swag and souvenirs. There’s a set of stairs here that will lead you down to the sand to enjoy the beach. If you’re planning more than a nice little stroll along the sand, and have a lot of gear to lug, we suggest loading up your car and parking in their lot.
