It’s Sunday morning at 9:34am, and we’re standing in a line approximately 40 people deep, all after the same thing…to indulge in a taste bud explosion of delicious doughnut heaven at a little place in Costa Mesa, CA, known as Sidecar Doughnuts and Coffee.
I guess we’re not alone in thinking this place has something special to offer. A selection that includes classic flavors like Butter & Salt and Old Fashion, to more unique treats like Bourbon Pecan Pie, Susie’s Blueberry Pancake, Maple Bacon and Huckleberry, all of which will bring us coming back for more and more and more.
There’s no seating inside and they only have a few small cafe style tables outside, so most who visit are taking their treasures to go, as we did.
Our personal style is to typically grab a variety of options and split them up amongst our group. Each are so good that we enjoy breaking them up and sharing, or what we like to call the “sampler method”. One thing to note is that by the time we got inside, many of the trays were slim or empty, so the selection was limited. They are continually bringing them out hot and fresh, so if you’re a little patient, the trays will be replenished so you’ll get what you came here for. And while you’re here, don’t forget to grab a cup of coffee.
Now, remember the starting time when we entered the long line, well, we were out the door with our doughnuts in hand at 9:51am, just 17 minutes from start to finish. The line moves pretty quickly so don’t let it scare you off.
Highlightable highpoint:
- Super fresh doughnuts
- Traditional and unique selection available
- Long lines move quickly
- Can order ahead
- Maple Bacon (definitely highlightable)
